Starting DXing
again, I need an online service to keep up with things. So this is a site for my own pleasure, updated with what I want, when needed.
As I don't like Facebook, Instagram, Blogger, Wordpress or other so-called free social media plattform (all they want is to make money on our data), I do this on my own site.
So no need to worry about cookies, ads, fancy hidden gizmos; this is just plain HTML, the way it all once started.

HF aircraft voice comms

Dgital Selective Calling, or DSC, can be used in the HF bands as well as in VHF.
Standardized distress/emergency DSC frequencies are 4207.5, 6312, 8414.5, 12577, 16804.5 kHz.

There is a free DSC decoder available called YADD, Yet Another DSC Decoder, somewhat of an analog to YAND for decoding NAVTEX transmissions. Links to download YADD:

For non-emergency traffic, I believe aircraft use HFDL, or High Frequency Data Link, in the HF bands. It is similar to ACARS used in the VHF band.
You can use MultiPSK to decode HFDL, but I tend to prefer PC-HFDL. Here’s a link:

You can pair up decoded HFDL messages with PlanePlotter, and show plane locations like with ADSB.

There are a lot of HFDL frequencies between 2941 and 21997 kHz. Here’s a link to a table for the various HFDL frequencies used by the aeronautical ground stations that handle transoceanic flights routes:

Some air carriers use HFDL (High Frequency Data Link) which is HF ACARS, similar to VHF ACARS but slower:

For reference, VHF ACARS is 2400Bd via the aircraft's VHF AM transceivers.
Boeing uses the #3 VHF for ACARS, but can be used for voice comms if needed.
The B777 would use VHF when w/in range of ACARS ground stations, then switch over to SATCOM as we went oceanic, and if that failed (polar regions) HFDL would be used.
So for HF Aeronautical you have voice comms or HFDL.
